So, if you are struggling to pull your life back together after various setbacks such as divorce or any other kind of failed relationship, job loss, financial failures and wonder if you will ever get ahead, or other unachieved or incomplete goals and dreams such as healthy living, education and career goals, I encourage you to subscribe to this blog so that you will know when new material is released and together we can uplift each other on this journey called life.

As we begin 2022, I just wanted to share with you 6 tips that will help you to get a quick start in this new year as you build enthusiasm and drive to pursue your goals.

Step 1

First of all, I encourage you to establish a prayer life, if you don’t have one already.

An active prayer life helps to increase faith, boost confidence, and it’s a great opportunity to share your innermost thoughts without fear of being betrayed by others who you cannot trust with your vulnerabilities

According to Max Lucado, “Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble. But since the power of prayer is in the one who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference.” –

So, you want to begin by establishing an active prayer life.

Step 2

Forgive yourself – let’s face it!often times we find ourselves in varying circumstances that derail us from our goals because of bad choices that we have made. I am not saying that we should dwell on this but we need to acknowledge this so that we can forgive ourselves, learn from our mistakes and put these negative experiences behind us.

In the words of Kristin Neff, when we give ourselves self-compassion, we are opening our hearts in a way that can transform our lives.

Step 3

Let the past be the past –

Many times, we have difficulty moving on and succeeding at self-transformation because we can’t let go of the past. Well, I would like to encourage you to let the past be the past. 

Steve Maraboli, author of Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience admonishes that “The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.” And I’m sure we all want to move on in 2022 and beyond.

Step 4

Set achievable goals – I know sometimes we are reluctant to set goals if we feel that we have failed so many times before, but I admonish you to set them again. Setting goals is a way of holding yourself accountable.

Also, often because of pressure from family, friends, co-workers etc, we find ourselves trying to set unattainable goals which in the end leaves us feeling inept and unaccomplished. So, when setting goals, know the difference between short-term goals and long-term goals.  So, your short-term goals would target what you want to and would likely be able to achieve in 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or a year, for example.  Your long-term goals would normally focus on what you would like to achieve in 2 years, 3 years, 4 or 5 years and so on.

As Earl Nightingale puts it, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal.”

So, once we have set a goal and achieved it, we want to set another goal so that we would always have something we are working towards.

Step 5

Begin with small steps – This would make our quest achieve our goals to less overwhelming and more attainable. This way we would be more likely to experience success in the small things which would motivate us to continue until we are doing bigger things.

Robert Collier states that “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”

So, if your goal is to run a marathon, for example, and you have not been a runner or jogger prior to this, you may not want to start out running 5/6 miles. You may want to start out with shorter distances and continue to push yourself daily as your body becomes stronger and can handle longer distances.

Step 6

Celebrate small achievements.

So, as was mentioned in step 4, once you have set a goal and achieved it, you want to set another goal so that you would always have something you are working towards. However, I would add to that, at each interval of achievement, you should celebrate your success even in small ways.  So, if you are training to run a marathon and you started out running shorter distances and was able to add to it daily or at regular intervals then you may want to celebrate each small achievement by treating yourself maybe to your favourite treat or doing something you like to do but don’t get to do that often or reward yourself in some way that will motivate you to go on to the next level.


So, as we have begun 2022, I hope that these 6 tips will help you to get a quick start on working towards becoming your best self not just this year but beyond.
