Eight Ways How Better Life Management Can Help You Achieve Your Dreams

Are you living your life on autopilot?

If you find yourself doing the same routine day after day, never remembering what you did the day before, having nothing to look forward to, living your life – but never enjoying it or anything in it…you are probably living your life and the relationships in it on autopilot.

The really devastating part about living life on autopilot, especially when it comes to your relationships, is that you don’t even know that you’re doing it half the time. You’re just living your life, wishing for more, but not really sure if there is more or how to get it.  While many people live out their entire lives on autopilot (which is truly sad), the way to have truly rewarding and successful lives & relationships is to be totally aware and adaptable when it comes to life.  So, how do you do that?

If you are on autopilot there’s a reason why. Your life is out of balance. It’s either too stressful, too complicated, too boring, or you have surrendered your life to the “routine”.   Take one day this week and really think about your life. Your relationship. How can you shake things up? Make them interesting? How can you get back in balance and in love with your life again?

Do you want a better life? Big changes are difficult, and take time, but there are many easy steps you can take right now.

It’s easy just to look, right? Start looking for specific ways to make your life better, and to improve yourself. Even if you don’t accomplish anything immediately, you are preparing yourself. Thinking about change sets your mind and your motivation in motion.

You’re not looking for an excuse to avoid difficult tasks, but you wouldn’t expect to quit cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine and complaining all at once, right? Just make things better today, in any small way. Seeing results will motivate you for the more difficult steps.

If you want to stop living your life on autopilot, so you can better manage your life and ultimately, have a better life, I have good news for you: from getting organized to maximizing your time, there are some easy ways to stay focused and achieve your goals.

Here are 8 actionable steps you can begin taking right now to better manage your life and achieve your dreams.

  1. Stop and smell the roses (literally:). Take time to notice all the little things around you that you always use to look at when you were 6!
  • Think about your short and long-term goals. Do you still have those? And if so – have you forgotten them? Re-write that list and start working on accomplishing your next short-term goal.
  • Remember your relationship? When was the last time you did something new with him/her? When was the last time you even wanted to? Start thinking about your relationship and stop just “being in it”.
  • Take inventory and determine what areas in your life needs work and take steps to improve them. Watching a reality TV show may be more entertaining than cleaning the green film off the shower stall but it won’t keep your home from becoming a biohazard. Establishing and sticking to priorities will help you spend less time worrying about what needs to be done and more time accomplishing your goals. Consider using Sunday evenings, when you normally mourn the end of the weekend, to go over weekly goals and priorities. This is a great way to stay focused on what you want to accomplish without getting ahead of yourself.
  • Cut Out the Junk. If you’re like most people, you keep possessions well beyond their usefulness. When neighbors begin mistaking your garage for abstract art, you have a problem. Consider selling old appliances, clothing and furniture that add clutter to your life; to avoid the hassle of a yard sale, use Web sites such as eBay and Craigslist to sell secondhand goods. One day you may even be able to park your car in the garage.
  • Give Someone Else a Spot. Pledging to be more active in your community is an important goal. Instead of shying away from volunteer opportunities, make a point to reserve one day a month for charities or functions. Nonprofit organizations are flexible when it comes to working with volunteers.
  • Close your eyes and breathe deeply through your nose, whenever you feel stressed. Stress is one of the biggest impediments to a better life. Simple stress-management techniques like this can help a lot if you make them a habit.
  • List the good things you’ve got. This may seem trite, but a good mood makes life better. Ever buy a van and start seeing vans everywhere? The same thing happens when you buy an idea. Imagine how it will affect your frame of mind to start seeing good things everywhere.

None of these tips will take effect if you don’t implement them into your daily routine. It only takes a couple days of procrastination before you’re smothered by daily tasks and confused about what to do next. You will change your habits only by being proactive and setting constant reminders. Remember, Rome was not built in a day. By being patient with your progress and approaching your goals sooner than later, you may have some great accomplishments to celebrate.

I could go on, but I don’t know what your goals and needs are. The point here is to get you thinking, and then taking whatever actions you can. If you thought about the whole process, you might never build a house, but it’s easy to nail one board in place, right? (And then one more, and one more…)

I wish you every success as you take the steps necessary to better manage your life and come that much closer to actually realizing your dreams.
